Plan your stay
Your journey to Manta starts before you arrive. Getting here takes a little time,
but the remoteness is part of what makes this place rare. We’re here to guide you
through the details so your arrival feels simple, not stressful.
GETTING HERE
Reaching Pemba is straightforward with our guidance. Flights connect from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam to Pemba Island’s small airport. From there, our team will meet
you and bring you across forest and coastal villages to Manta. Travel is part of the arrival, setting a slower pace from the start.
FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS
Most guests connect via Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam, and continue on a small aircraft to Pemba Airport (PMA) near Chake Chake. The easiest way to book is via
tripindigo.com, with Coastal Air or Auric Air. From the airport, our transfer partners bring you north across the island — a drive of about an hour and a half. Roads are
rough in places, but the journey offers glimpses of spice fields, villages, and forest before the ocean opens again at the island’s tip. Transfers are arranged in advance
and added to your stay at USD 45 per person, per way.
VISA & INSURANCE
Most visitors require a tourist visa for Tanzania, which can be arranged in advance online via the Tanzania Immigration Department. Some travellers may be eligible for
visa on arrival; fees and categories vary. A valid passport with at least six months’ validity and two blank pages is required. Always check the latest guidance before
travel: visa.immigration.go.tz.
Personal travel insurance is recommended. In addition, Tanzanian authorities require a local cover for all visitors to Pemba.
ACCOMMODATION AND AMENITIES
Spaces are simple, real, and shaped by place. King beds with mosquito nets and the EveningBreeze cooling system ensure restful nights. En-suite bathrooms and outdoor showers bring the outside in. Laundry is included; Wi-Fi is limited, so presence feels natural. Beds are king as standard; some can be set as twins, and an extra bed is possible where layouts allow—tell us what you need and we’ll advise.

HEALTH & TRAVEL
Pemba is a malaria area—prophylaxis is advised. Please bring mosquito repellent and any personal medications you need. The island is remote, but we maintain contact with medical services and respond quickly if needed. Travel insurance is recommended; the Government of Tanzania also requires a local, mandatory policy for visitors to Pemba—this does not replace your own comprehensive cover. Ahead of your stay, we’ll share practical notes so preparation feels easy and calm.
PRACTICAL NOTES
Connectivity — Mobile signal is limited; Wi-Fi is available but intermittent — part of being remote.
Electricity — 220V, with charging points and adapters available in rooms.
Payments — Manta is a cashless operation. Cash is useful in villages or for gratuities.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, but lightly — mobile coverage is patchy, Wi-Fi is available but intermittent. Presence here is about less connection to devices, more to place.
Travel light: soft bags for local flights (15–20 kg limit), light clothing, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, and a wrap for village visits. A light sweater helps for cooler evenings. Laundry is included daily.
We recommend malaria prophylaxis. Bring mosquito repellent and any personal medication. A valid travel insurance policy is strongly advised, in addition to the mandatory Tanzanian local cover.
Most guests arrive via Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam, then take a small aircraft to Pemba (PMA). From there, we arrange transfers to Manta — about 1.5 hours by road through spice fields and villages, ending at the island’s quiet northern tip.
A three-night minimum ensures you settle into the rhythm here. Longer stays are encouraged — the island reveals itself slowly.
Your stay covers accommodation, all meals and drinks, wellness treatments, and laundry. Airport transfers, guided experiences and excursions (including diving/ snorkelling trips) are at an additional cost.
You can reach Pemba Island by taking a short flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to Pemba Airport (PMA). Alternatively, ferries are available from Zanzibar, though flights are generally quicker and more comfortable.
The island shifts with the winds: the Kusi (May–October) brings cooler breezes and some rain; the Kaskazi (December–March) brings warmth, calm seas and clear skies. The reef thrives year-round; tides set the rhythm each day.
