Over 250 different birds have been seen in the area right around Ras Kigomasha, so that gives you an idea of the variety of birdlife - and included are four endemic species. Walks in and around the Ngezi forest are the choice walking areas, only 15 minutes by vehicle. At the lodge itself, and beach, many unique species are resident, including the pemba sunbird, parrots, eagles, ibis, hornbills, sunbirds, amongst the more famous.
Early morning tours bring the best results for the dead keen. A speciality at night time in the forest is to call in the Pemba Scops Owl. As any birder will tell you this is the most desired of all endemics and a real prize to see.
